WES/BES EoI Undertaking Successfully Delivered
On the 30 September 2006, Openreach began supplying its Ethernet portfolio on an equivalence of inputs basis.
“Equivalence of Inputs” or “EoI” means that BT provides, in respect of a particular product or service, the same product or service to all Communications Providers (including BT) on the same timescales, terms and conditions (including price and service levels) by means of the same systems and processes, and includes the provision to all Communications Providers (including other lines of business in BT) of the same commercial information about such products, services, systems and processes. It means that BT also uses these systems and processes in the same way as other Communications Providers and with the same degree of reliability and performance as experienced by other Communications Providers.
The precise obligations in relation to equivalence are set out in detail in the Undertakings.
This has been a major development involving the launch of new products and the conversion to EoI of existing products, so as you can imagine, the impact on Openreach’s internal systems has been huge. In spite of the scale of the task at hand, we have also been able to add improved functionality, including an indicative ‘Ethernet Pricing Tool’ where customers can calculate prices on WES, BES and WEES (subject to contract) and an indicative ‘Self Diagnostics Tool’ where customers can type in the circuit reference and find out if there are any alarms on the circuit.
