BT People Continue to Learn More about the Undertakings

A major programme of communications, training and engagement was launched across BT in December 2005 to ensure that all our people are aware of what the Undertakings are and how they affect the way they work and make decisions.

BT has issued a Code of Practice on the Undertakings to all its people. A mandatory computer based training programme supporting the Code of Practice is now well established and to date 93% percent of managers and 60% percent of team members have completed the training.

For engineers in Openreach and BT Wholesale, many of whom are field-based and find it difficult to take training online, a bespoke telephone training package was launched in February.

Briefings on the Undertakings for senior management teams across the business have been underway since October 2005. To date there have been over 50 briefings covering some 463 of BT’s most senior managers.

In addition, a series of regionally and functionally-based roadshows have been developed for managers in the business who, because of their areas of work, need a more intensive understanding of the Undertakings. As at 23 February, 1396 BT Wholesale managers had attended these specialist training events. The sessions use actors to help in role-playing exercises designed to bring many of the Undertakings, and how people need to make decisions and behave to be compliant, to life. A further 14 training programmes are planned over the next few weeks and BT Wholesale expects that when complete, 2297 managers will have attended the series.
