Global Reach of BT’s Training about the Undertakings

A major programme of communications, training and engagement continues throughout BT ensuring that all our people, whether in the UK or abroad, are aware of what the Undertakings are and how they affect the way they work and make decisions.

BT has issued a Code of Practice on the Undertakings to all its people. A mandatory computer based training programme supporting the Code of Practice is now well established and to date 97% per cent of managers and 89% per cent of team members have completed the training. Currently over 90,000 BT staff have now undergone the training throughout BT in the UK and abroad.

Testament to BT's seriousness of the Undertakings is the fact that the 33,000 employees in BT Global Services have been asked to complete BT's It Matters training course, explaining the Undertakings and how BT Global Services people should interact with colleagues in BT Wholesale and Openreach. BT Global Services people in the UK were asked to complete the training to coincide with the launch of Openreach in January, whilst the 10,000 people who are based all around the world have been given until the end of March 2006 to do their computer based training.

Continuing on from the BT Wholesale Undertakings Roadshows in the target sector of Products and Markets, a more operationally based Roadshow has been designed. These training workshops incorporate real life scenarios that the engineering, planning and network operational people face everyday. There are areas where behaviours have had to change because of the introduction of the new Code of Practice. Deb Covey (MD Network Operations and Planning) and her senior team have led the debate and question and answer sessions. As at 24 March, 2408 managers have attended the original Roadshows with an additional 715 managers to take part in the new operationally focussed series.
